TITLE IX

Defending Our Youth from BULLYING & HARASSMENT BASED on SEX (and GENDER Stereotypes)

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq. prohibits sex-based discrimination in any federally funded educational programs, including academic and extra-curricular programs.

TITLE IX is about much more than Sports Equality!

All forms of sex-based discrimination, harassment, rape/sexual assault and other abuse are prohibited (including gender stereotyping or sexual orientation),  regardless if the harasser is targeting someone of the same-sex or opposite sex.

DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS ARE DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECTED BY SCHOOL-BASED ABUSE AND HARASSMENT!

Abuse by authority figures of disadvantaged students  too often goes unreported or uninvestigated.
Urban Youth Justice stands for the rights of all students to be free from abuse and harassment, whether by school staff or other students, and holds schools accountable for preventing the denial of educational opportunity of  vulnerable students  because of sex-based discrimination.
